What this looks like in practice
A grower monitoring soil moisture across several blocks installs Decentlab soil probes on a LoRaWAN gateway. Each probe reports moisture and soil temperature at depth on its first uplink, already decoded into named fields with units rather than raw bytes.
Thresholds turn that into something actionable: an alert when moisture in a block drops below the point where irrigation is due, or when soil temperature crosses a sowing threshold in spring.
Because these are battery devices reporting every fifteen minutes or hour rather than every few seconds, a season of data is small, cheap to retain, and useful to compare year over year.

If your device is not on the list
It still works. Anything that speaks MQTT or HTTP, or arrives through a LoRaWAN network server integration, connects to Qubitro. A template only saves you writing the decoder — without one you write that function once, and from then on the device behaves exactly like a templated one.

Where Qubitro is not the answer
Qubitro monitors; it does not actuate. There is no irrigation control, no valve or pump scheduling, and no satellite imagery or agronomy modelling — if you need the platform to decide when to water and then open a valve, this is not that product. It also does not solve backhaul: if the field has no LoRaWAN coverage you still need a gateway plan before any of this works.

- Which soil sensors work with Qubitro?
- The probes listed on this page all have a pre-built template, so they report decoded, named values with a starter dashboard on their first uplink. Probes that are not listed still work — they need a decoder function written once, after which they behave identically.
- Does Qubitro control irrigation?
- No. Qubitro monitors and alerts; it does not actuate valves or pumps and has no irrigation scheduling. It is commonly used to watch conditions and notify, with irrigation control handled by a separate system.
- Do I need LoRaWAN coverage in the field?
- Yes, for LoRaWAN probes. Qubitro connects to your network server — The Things Stack, Actility, Senet, LORIOT or another — but does not provide coverage itself, so a gateway plan comes first. Cellular sensors that speak MQTT or HTTP can report to Qubitro directly.
